BEECH   MOUNTAIN   WARRIORS

Just as the knights of old mounted their steeds,

To joust one another to conquer unknown fears.

One young and one old knight of today mounted,

New born metal horses to begin their chosen quest.

To joust instead with steep mountain trails aloft,

Over treacherous rocks and through reaching trees.

They approached the challenge without trepidation,

And left with gashes, bruises, and sheer exhaustion.

So our brave mountain bikers have survived today,

As the unrelenting mountain stands in all its majesty.

So from the very first donning of our knightly garb,

Designed to protect from this treacherous assailant.

We set our mighty metal steeds upon the lift tracks,

And took our places as we were vaulted to the peaks.

Gravel grabbed at our tires twisting our every turn,

Heavy tree roots grabbing for our wheels as if alive.

The boulders appeared as growths from forest floors,

As we danced around them touching off the tall trees.

Pumping pedals and changing gears in rapid motion,

As our lungs gasped for air and our legs were failing.

Yet no steep mountain trail could subdue them today,

So amid the blood, bruises, bumps, sweat and tears.

Our brave young and elder lad prevailed against the foe,

And in the end and with all the tall tales they had spun,

They came, they saw, and the mighty mountain had won,

So maybe anew quest shall soon arise, on to the Andes.
